“Which way?” Papi’s voice rose above the chirping engine, a haunting question that infected the silence. Sweat dripped down his neck as he gripped the steering wheel, his knuckles white. The dirt road ahead looked well-traveled, but something felt off. “Go right, Papi,” I whispered, my heart racing.
